THE LORD OF THE FLIES

I Introduction/General Information about the Book

• Title: Lord of The Flies

• Author: William Golding

• Type of Book: Mystery/ fantasy

II Characters

Main Character:
Ralph: (one of the supreme trio) was the leader of the group that had great leadership skills. He was the one who found the conch shell that united the children after the crash.
His friends were killed by the other children that left their group. Those children believed that there was a monster in the island where they crashed.
• I can identify with the main character when: he used the conch self to call the other survivors of the crash. THAT was being responsible and resourceful. Even though it was scary at that time (surviving a crash),he still managed to pull himself together and called the other children.

• Supporting Characters: (name at most three)

Piggy- (one of the supreme trio) was the sensitive child. His glasses were really helpful because it was used to make fire. He was killed by roger because of his glasses. Roger dropped a rock on him and at the same time, the conch shell was shattered.

Simon- (one of the supreme trio), the one who envisioned the head of the pig swarmed by flies as the Lord of the Flies. When he went

III Setting
It was on an Island. Some of the children believed that there was a monster living there. Because of that, the children that formed a group later split into two tribes. Ralph’s tribe focused on preserving the signal fire. While Jack’s tribe focused more on hunting. There was a dead corpse in the Island. It was the corpse of a pilot that crashed.

• Comments: The setting of the story was different. During that time, people need all the resources they could get. Then why doesn’t anyone know about the island? Or why aren’t there any human inhabitants where boys who are in the age of less than thirteen could make shelter and hunt food? It taught me that some things even though they seem useless could be usefull all along.

IV Plot:
A Plane crashed. Only boys that were in the age less than 13 survived.
They adapted and worked together for a short time.
Then jack decided to leave the group taking his fellow choirs along therefore splitting the group.
Jack and his members of the tribe believed that there was a monster in the island. They set a trap using the head of the pig that they caught earlier. Simon found the head of the pig and thought that it was the Lord of The Flies. When he tried to tell jack’s tribe, Jack’s tribe killed him because they thought he was the monster.
They later on killed piggy because they wanted his glasses.
Ralph fled. When he was about to be caught, a naval battle ship saw the fire and landed near where Ralph is. Ralph cried because he knew that they were already saved.

• What is the author trying to say in this story? Is there a moral to this story? Just have faith. Just keep the fire going. For sure Help is coming.

• This book showed me/I learned from this story:
I learned that sticking together is better than splitting into groups because it could get the job done easier and faster. And it is more fun! The more the merrier right! More heads are better than less.
• State a problem in the story and how it was solved
They needed food and shelter so they assigned tasks to each of the children so that the job would get done and it did.

VI Evaluation of the Book

• What are your thoughts about the book? (did you or didn’t you like it and why?)
I liked it very much. It is really interesting. The characters had different kinds of traits that make the story even better.

a beautiful mind

I Introduction/General Information about the Book
• Title: A Beautiful Mind

• Author: Sylvia Nasar

• Type of Book: Biography

II Characters

Main Character: John Forbes Nash jr.- he was a mathematician student in Princeton university. He was a brilliant man but he had a weird way of thinking. He believes that everything could be answered like a math problem. His wife is Alicia Larde one of his former students at MIT. He joined the Department of defense where he accepts a secret work involving cryptography/

• I can identify with the main character when: he wrote long mathematical equations on the windows. Because for him, knowing the answer of a thing he doesn’t know is worth doing difficult and hard things.

• Supporting Characters:
Charles Herman - John Nash’s best friend that helped him a lot in many ways.
Alicia Larde - John’s wife and a former student.
William Parcher- He was the one who convined John to join the department of defence.

III Setting
The setting was at New Jersey, United states. There’ he graduated at Princeton University, met his best friend ( Charles herman), got a top secret job because of his knowledge, and found his love of his life, Alicia Larde who helped him cope up.

comment: old movies use lesser number of places compared to the new ones, so we easily recall where the setting is. It’s good because now we know where Princeton University is.

IV Plot:
John Nash studied and graduated at Princeton University.
He worked as a teacher at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) where he found his wife, Alicia Larde, one of his students.
He joined the Department of defence where he accepted a top secret mission. He had a problem, after that unfortunate event, he became paranoid and he also started having hallucinations.
He later started teaching again even though he still had hallucinations, he didn’t let it take control over him.
He won the Nobel Prize in Economics for his outstanding work on game theory.

V Theme
The Only Thing Greater Than the Power of the Mind is the Courage of the Heart

• What is the author trying to say in this story? Is there a moral to this story?

• This book showed me/I learned from this story: I learned that knowledge can make you successful… but that’s only one factor. There are a lot more factors that make a person successful. Perseverance is one of them, striving hard to accomplish your goals. There are no easy ways on getting on top.
• State a problem in the story and how it was solved
Not being able to answer why. So he kept on working hard until he could answer it.

VI Evaluation of the book
•I liked it a lot, I have already watched a lot of times but this time, I really paid attention to it and understood it. I had gained a lot of things in this movie. Its good.
